From what you are saying i think the answer to your question is no... Having more memory would only make it faster if anything but if the psp was a computer the mem card would be your ROM and the internal memory is the RAM...

I've got an 8GB card on order at the moment. I tried one out in my Slim and I have to say it was no slower than the 4GB.

Got mine for £30 from a man in France on Ebay.

You can get some serious movies and music on 8GB.

I dont think it will slower it, maybe only faster it on the internet.

Sounds like you are talking about playing games and the lag referred to is the extended load times and freezes during play.

If you buy an 8GB card then follow this guide and I have been reliably informed that it will work like greased lightning.

Mainly tried this on my 4 gig cards and it seems to work ok. Should possibly work with other size cards.
What I found out while running a card speed test is that my cards were only reading at abt 2mb/s after playnig the speed increased to 11mb/s Used Blackspeed v 1.0 for test Google it.
Test speed before and after

If card info is FAT or FAT16 your card is formatted ok.

Check yours

Connect the psp to pc via usb and go to My Computerand click on the drive of the PSP
Look where it say's details on the left hand side.
It should read FAT if it reads FAT32 you need to format the card to FAT16 to do this.

Before you go any further BACKUP THE MS CARD to your COMPUTER

Say your PSP drive is X

1. Go to Start-> Menu-> Run...
2. Type Format X: /FS:FAT space between : and /

Use windows explorer to reinstall your file structure on the card afterwards

then try your card again

If you reformat the card via the Format Card in the PSP System menu it will only format to FAT32 on a 4 gig card

PS. I didn't write this guide, I am merely a library for useful information.

Any computers storage capacity does not increase performance. Read/write speads however do, but seeing as there is no difference to 3gig and 8gig read/write then the answer to your question is no.

As for RAM, this does increase performance based on both capacuty and speed (mhz). Although you can have as much RAM in the world, its pretty useless when you have a storage device running really slow that the RAM has to wait. Same applies to CPU's, GPU's etc etc.

My 8GB card arrived the other day, regrettably I must say that the vendor advertised it as a genuine Sony MS Pro Duo and yet a fake turned up.

I contacted the vendor and advised them that his supplier was sending out fake cards and I was refunded in full immediately.

The moral of the story, buy from Ebay but be prepared to receive fake products. Always remember to pay via Paypal so that you can get your hard earned cash back from these dodgy dealers.

I have been fine with all 3 of my cards i bought from ebay. I must admit if i was to get another i would buy from a shop or ebuyer (im addicted to them). As they are so cheap now.

Okay I had a problem with the Crisis Core FMV lagging after going from a 4gb to an 8gb stick. After pulling my hair out and many hours trying to fix the problem, only to find a wealth of misinformation on the internet... hopefully this will help someone.

I have a fat psp running 3.90 m33-3 with the msfatmod and 1.50 kernel installed. Running the full iso off a real 8gb sandisk high speed purchased off amazon. I'm also not using any of the NO-UMD modes, as these didn't make any difference.

First of all YOU CANNOT FORMAT AN 8GB CARD TO FAT(16)! It will not work, as the format is native to 4gb and below. Strangely this seems to be everyone's solution and is posted everywhere.

What did finally do the trick was reformatting the stick via the psp again after installing the fatmsmod. The folder scheme ends up completely different and you'll have to rearrange some of your media files, but I believe this is due to the way fatmsmod accesses the card. All I know is it worked.

So update your CFW, install fatmsmod, and REFORMAT the card via the psp in that order (and yes in FAT32). Good luck
