Default Where can I get the headphone remote for the PSP1000?

Help! I understand that in order to use a headset with mic on the older PSP 1000 series (for playing online games), I'll need the headphone remote. My PSP did not come with a remote, apparently because I did not get the value pack. Also I was told that the remote for the slim 2000 series does not work with the 1000 series.

I called a few places, EB Games and Gamestop, but I was told that Sony is not sending them to them anymore. I don't know if that means "nobody" is getting them anymore, or what? I also tried to find it on Ebay, but did not see that they would be for the 1000 series.

1. Where can I still find the Remote that works for the 1000 series?

2. If I do find something promising ,like on Ebay, how can I be assured that it works with the 1000 series? Is there something different about those that I could easily see in a picture.

3. Anybody know to "rig up" a headset with mic without the remote? I'm guessing that two of the six prongs next to the headphone jack would need to be tapped into somehow.

Thanks!

Jim
