Not at all. Sony isn't expecting the Ps3 to take full sail until around the end of '08/the beginning of '09. As you can clearly see they are STILL seeing amazing sales from their already 7 year old console, the Ps2. Sony is expecting a 10 year life out of the Ps3 so if you do the math and understand their marketing strategy, they are right on the money.

That's what I've been reading a lot of lately. I think in the long term (after everyone has given up on the PS2, and the PS3 is affordable) the PS3 will be a huge seller just like it's predecessors (before you respond, keep in mind I didn't say they will win the console war or anything) . LOL at the "Sony is doomed!!!" talk around the internet...10 months into the hardware cycle. |

Believe me when I say Sony are desperate for a title to get the PS3 up and running - there quite simply isn't a killer game on it currently to make someone want to buy the thing. Halo 3 is going to result in even more sales for the 360 and Sony will not want to be too far behind when their killer games start to hit the market. I'm not implying the PS3 is dead in the water here.

When Microsoft is releasing a console with a next gen disk drive, the Ps3 will have had such a solid foot in the market, they won't need to worry. The marketing strategy that Sony is taking with the Ps3 is beyond that of the Ps2 so comparing the two is pointless.
I simply brought up the Ps2 to show you that Sony is still making money on a console that was released almost 8 years ago. The original Xbox (the Ps2's rival) is DEAD, the Gamecube was never alive. Sony knows what they are doing as far as the market and consoles are concerned. I am going to enjoy my 360 until it starts to fade then make the switch to the Ps3 when the time is right. Right now? The Ps3 owners are either die hard fans or hardcore gamers that need the latest. The Ps3 won't make it into the mainstream until 09 or so... at the same time the 360 is beginning to fade. Not to mention BlueRay is a solid format that is gaining rapid success in the market and with film and audio studios around the globe. It's early to say, but I know where I'd put my poker chips if I had to right now.

You think the 360 is fading?
Dude, seriously, re-think that statement. Also, agreed the Xbox is nothing to the PS2, but remember that it was microsofts first attempt and done it at a loss in order to break into the market, and have they done so with the 360, hell yeah. Next gen disk drives? We might not even play games on disks in 10 years time! for this generation the DVD will do fine, yeah the blu-ray has room for expansion and im glad about that, means more possibilities for the gaming community. I dont even know why people argue about which company is going to do better, what does it matter to you. If you realise the other console is more for you, get that one aswell, if the one you have does the job then happy days. The marketing strategy of the ps3 is different to the ps2? Nah, thats just a silly excuse for the fact that the ps3 isnt doing as good as its older weaker version. Not a good marketing strategy is it? Kev ![]()

Think before you type or you will be warned for personal insults.
My opinion is that you are writing off the PS3's early mediocre sales a little too easily. Yes it is going to have a longer shelf life than the 360 but I suspect the difference is going to be less than you think. And the Xbox is dead because Microsoft decided to kill it off. A mistake in my view when they could have redesigned it into a smaller package and flogged it on the cheap in third world countries like Sony are still doing with the PS2. It would certainly get the Xbox brand into more homes, a good thing in the long run. However, I suspect they didn't want any interference with their 360 plans and it certainly makes things a lot cleaner. It could be argued part of Sony's problems with the PS3 is that they haven't got all their eggs in one basket, so to speak.

I agree, who cares if so and so company makes more money than the other company, as long as the PS3 has games I like to play, and as long as the 360 has games you like to play, who cares really.
