PS3? Blu-ray player?

Hello everyone,

My dad is planning to get a PS3 as a blu-ray player to watch blu-ray movies etc. In Hong Kong A blu-ray player costs 10,000$HKD which is around 620 pounds. I, of course want to play the next generation games on it.

I need your help to convince my dad to get a PS3 for games as well. Suggestions like HD quality gaming, wireless controls etc will do the job.

Well, first of all try to not make your dad think about upconversion, since the PS3 doesn't do that too good (it doesn't work with any copyright protected DVDs). I don't exactly understand the problem here though, if your dad gets it as a Bluray player, won't you still be able to play games on it?

My dad doesn't want me to abuse the PS3 but he wants to buy it for blu-ray DVD's.

Huh abuse.... Noooo not the cloth the PS3 scratches easily when trying to wipe the dust of it, just anything but the cloth.
He liked the GT Demo when he played on mine so that is a plus point.

Actually, if the PS3 is anything like the PS2, then watching movies on it would be more of abuse than playing games. I remember hearing from a lot of people that watching DVDs on the PS2 would cause the console to die much faster.

The PS2 was always REALLY crap when it came to playing DVDs and the lasers were cheap. The PS3 doesn't suffer from this any more than a normal Blu-Ray would.

Thats awesome, it means I don't have to worry about my system dieing because I use it as my movie player as well.
