Default The Church of England is ****ED, Considering suing Sony.

Like the title says, the Church of England is considering suing Sony over a level in Resistance. Does anyone remember the Cathedral level from Resistance? Apparently the Cathedral is the Church of England and they aren't too happy about it.

Here's the article from QJ:
Quote:

The Church of England has taken offense with the presence of an English Cathedral in Sony PlayStation 3 video game Resistance: Fall of Man. Because of this, they're demanding that copies of the said game should be pulled out of video game stores, even threatening to take legal actions against Sony if necessary.

Church officials have been quoted calling Sony both "sick" and "sacrilegious" for using what they consider a holy place as a setting for a (according to them) violence-filled video game. Sony spokesperson David Wilson has responded to this saying,

It is game-created footage, it is not video or photography. It is entertainment, like Doctor Who or any other science fiction. It is not based on reality at all. Throughout the whole process we have sought permission where necessary.

Games allegedly going beyond what is deemed as ethical has been a hot issue lately, with Mexicans claiming foul over racism in Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2 as one of the more pressing concerns. Dean of Manchester Cathedral Rev. Rogers Govender spoke on the significance of the English Cathedral's presence in Resistance.

This is an important issue. For many young people these games offer a different sort of reality and seeing guns in Manchester cathedral is not the sort of connection we want to make. Every year we invite hundreds of teenagers to come and see the cathedral and it is a shame to have Sony undermining our work.

Another official of the church, Rt. Rev. Nigel McCulloch echoed fears related to the gun problem Manchester has been having. He believes that "for a global manufacturer to recreate one of our great cathedrals with photo-realistic quality and then encourage people to have gun battles in the building is beyond belief and highly irresponsible."

Will this problem escalate? Has video games really been bordering beyond what is deemed internationally ethical? Another issue probably on the back of many minds is that if Resistance: Fall of Man is indeed withdrawn from retail stores, can Sony afford the possible loss of console/software sales at this crucial point?

Be sure to check back here for more updates on this issue.

NO, violence doesn't happen because of the poor education system or failing government, it happens because of videogames. Don't we all know that? Now lets all dress up as a medieval mob and go burn everything game related.

I wonder, in the movie Independence Day, the White House was blown up, and so were some other USA relics. Does that mean that this movie encourages destruction of those places? I live in NY, and I'm psyched with GTA4 taking place here. I'm pretty sure that if I find my house there, I would crash a car into it or something. Once again that does not mean that I would do that in real life.

You know what I think? I bet a lot of those teenagers that the church invites, started talking about how well Resistance replicated the church, instead of going and becoming mindless slaves to whatever the church tells them. Church gets ****ed, blames Sony.

*PS* just in case there is anyone religious here, I'm not against religion, or whatever beliefs you have, I just don't like how the church makes a business from people's hopes in afterlife.
