![]() Above are the latest world-wide next-gen console sales since the PS3's initial European release back in March. After the inevitable spike when they were first available, it seems to have been downhill from then while the other two have remained fairly consistent and solid. Is there anything Sony can do to buck this trend other than the obvious answer of release more games? It isn't good news that the Xbox 360, even though it has been around for nearly 16 months longer (in Europe), is selling over twice as many units per month on average and the Wii (although unlike the 360 they can't really be compared in my view) is selling up to five times as many. It seems Blu-Ray is not something people are prepared to pay through the nose for. Is it time for a price cut?

Interesting, i would like to see the profit made by each console for the respective companies.
I do believe that Nintendo are making the most profit in that period. Sure consoles cost more to make than they sell them at, but based on the sales the Wii (although not lots of games) is selling loads, and at least one game is bought with it. I would put it as 1) Nintendo 2) Microsoft 3) Sony Thats my guess though, would like to see the facts. Kev 8) |

Even though I already have a PS3, I think they should lower the price. As far as I have read before, Sony was able to cut their production costs by $200, making each 60 gig PS3 cost them under $500. They can easily drop the price by $50 or maybe even $100 without facing much losses, especially if it will help them sell a lot more. With the games, well, they got not much until the fall, about the same way as the 360 took a year to release gears.

I personally think it's waaaaaayyy to early to judge anything right now. For Christ's sake the system's been out for less than a year.
For me a price cut doesn't matter, if you want a PS3 it isn't that hard to save up $600. Honestly, it only took me like 2 months. If you don't want one, don't get one...simple as that. I enjoy my PS3, and in 2 years time, I think it could be the market leader once again, but then again, I may be wrong. However, there are 100 million people that purchased PS1s and PS2s (I know, shocking  ), you think all those customers are gonna magically disappear. Like I said, it's way to early to even bother predicting anything (even though I offered my opinion). |

Of course the PS3 is quite a bit more expensive in Europe than it is in the U.S., I think after conversion it's around $850 USD compared to the $600 we pay. I don't know what a 360 runs over there. However, the following are some reasons I chose PS3 over 360. You may or may not agree with a lot of what I say, but these are some things a lot of people don't look at when they bash the PS3 for various reasons. I, personally, think Blu-Ray an awesome feature since I have a high def TV and do use it, and I figured I would pay less for the PS3 than if I bought the 360 Elite ($480)+HD-DVD Drive($200). This is not even factoring in the WiFi adapter ($100) that I use with PS3 (which is built in) and online service ($50/year for Live) which Sony offers free (although admittedly it isn't as good yet...wait 'til home) On a final note, I find the 360 to be too similar to a computer in the variety of games (mainly shooters) it offers. I already have a computer. Also I've heard tons of RROD stories that scared me away from the 360. I wouldn't even consider buying one until they get that sorted out. Sorry 'bout the rant.   |
