hhhmmmm interesting comment.

I own an American car... albeit built here in Canada. It is a Chysler 300m. Small v6 3.5ltr unit and fully loaded... no sat nav though  ... it is one of the best cars I have ever owned.... complete luxury.... more comfortable than the Beemer and it handles very well.
Obviously not like a small car but it does not wallow in the bends and bounce about like older American cars.... hell even Clarkson liked the 300c... his comments were a gun platform on wheels it looked so mean hahahahahahaha

I have 'played' with my 300m and she loves the twisties.... handles better than my Ford Granada (only other big size wise car I have owned)I used to have and that was a nice car too and the 300m is BIGGER than that.

I think the comment that all American cars cannot turn corners is now outdated.... and even when it was correct you have to understand that the road systems here and in the US are completely different than back in the UK. The roads are much bigger and with few twists and turns... also the speed limits are much lower.

The only down with a yank car is the finish.... mine is cool but the 300c, Charger, Magnum eh are not finished really well.... lots of cheap plastic on the inside. Still I guess you pay for the look and the big Hemi unit... think the top Charger has a 7.2ltr Hemi unit.... hell the Magnum scared the crap out of me with the 5.7ltr
My v6 3.5ltr is sufficient for me... gets me outta trouble and not into it (too much).

Des

So you obviously havent seen "Clarkson: The good, The bad, The ugly"

It basically a DVD on how he puts US and european cars to a test to see who is better at making cars.

He tests who is better around a track, and here is the lineup
Car 1: Dodge Viper SRT10
Car 2: BMW Z3 M
To my amazment it was a tie. Not an inch in it.

Next tested 4X4's, and the lineup
Car 1: Hummer H2
Car 2: Escalade
Car 3: Range Rover
The test was "first up that huge mountain wins"
Hummer got to a certain altitude and decided it had enough, whilst the escalade dug its own grave and pit all its broken parts in with it.
Whilst the Range rover powered its way up and won

Next tested what US cars are known for, drag racing.
Car 1: Chrysler 300 C
Car 2: BMW M5
BMW was all over the chrysler

He then goes on about the sound of the V8's US make the rrraaaaaaaagghh sound, whilst the Europeans make the (cant spell this so will explain) like a moped but an extremely powerful one. This is only opinion though, and cant count towards the final test.

He done a feature at the end on one car the americans got right, the Ford GTX1, what a brilliant car.

BUT, he explained the gearbox was made by bentley, the chasis by lotus the engine by (you get my drift)

He concluded with this statement

"This car is the best america have produced, and its as amercan as the american national anthem, which was wrote by a british man"

Clarkson is legend

why would they test a 300 C in a drag race...thats a luxury sedan not a powerhouse. given some have the hemi for power, but it was not designed for speed.

no wonder the bmw won.its like racing a ferrari versus a tank. two different things for two different lifestyles.

should have raced a chrysler crossfire against it for a fair race, would have at least stood a chance.

or if you want a real pwnanza put up any car, including the veyron against the chrysler ME Four-Twelve and see how it goes.now THATS a race i would pay to see.

granted the ME Four-Twelve isnt currently in production, but the prototype would still kick ass.

The 300C is a luxury sedan, and the BMW M5 is a business mans car, driving in and out of london each day. So it was a fair race.

The chrysler crossfire would certainly beat the BMW M5, but the crossfire is more a sports car.

Buggatti would beat the ME Four twelve, its the fastest production car in the world.

And anyway, as you said the ME isnt in production so thats not in a category to contest in this.

Sorry about the off topicness of this discussion weezer, i know you get a little touchy about it now and then. 8)

The Crossfire is little more than an old Mercedes SLK and wouldn't stand a snowball in hells chance against the BMW M5. My friend works for Daimler Chrysler and I had a nice drive of the Crossfire before it was released in the UK and was not impressed - it didn't handle well and was very spongy. Got some nice looks from people though.

Specs:-

Crossfire 3.2 V6: 0-62 MPH 6.5 seconds.
BMW M5: 0-62 MPH 4.3 seconds in 'M' mode.

As you can see, the poor Crossfire is over two seconds slower than the BMW and not only that, it doesn't handle as well.

The M5 is also restricted to a top speed of 155mph but will hit over 205mph if unrestricted whereas the crossfire will top out at 148mph

I had a whole post comparing them and how the Crossfire would have no chance at all in even coming close to winning but my PC crashed >_<

Just search YouTube for BMW M5 vs [other stuff] and you'll find plenty of videos of M5's beating Ferrari's and Lamborghini's

You only have to look at my avatar to know I'm a car person. I love the M5, specifically the E39 M5 which is one of my favourite cars ever.

However, put an M5 against a CL65 V12 BiTurbo and it's a different matter. My friend had one of these for a weekend from work about a year ago. 612 BHP and the scariest car I have ever been in.

What im trying to get across, is the M5 is a business mans car, and i believe the the M5 wasnt in M mode when they both raced. I will check that.

The price for a BMW M5 compared to those who it can beat is amazing.

Yet again with the crossfire, they make a nice looking car that can only go forward, forget left or right.
