Default 10 Playstation 3 Perks Under The Radar

10. Removeable faceplate

The entire front of the PS3 can easily popped off making way for companies to churn out millions of Metal Gear Solid 4 custom faceplates.

PS3 has removable top plate

Casual and hardcore gamers alike looking for ways to customize their consoles have always run the risk of creating colorful paperweights. Microsoft recognized this issue and gave gamers some help in this department when they allowed the face plate of their Xbox 360 to be fully interchangeable with any custom plate that met the dimensions of their console. It now appears that Sony has taken a similar measure.

By pressing a button on the side of the PlayStation 3, the top panel of the console pops right off. The warranty sticker sits below the panel, so taking it off does not appear to void the console's warranty. Whether Sony intended for customizable tops is unknown, but it should be interesting to see if companies begin to release custom tops for the PS3 in the coming months.
9. Touch To Activate Buttons

The disc tray and the on/off button are both touch to activate buttons and not push buttons. Just wave your filthy finger over either of them and they'll activate.

8. Partition The Hard Drive Easily

There is an option right in the main PS3 system menus that allows you to instantly partition the HD for Linux or another OS.

7. Easiest Friends List Yet

While you have to move through quite a few menus on the XBOX 360, the Playstation 3's friend list feature is literally a couple quick d-pad pushes away. Then once you have access to it approving, inviting, and overall friend management is just as slick and easy.

6. Auto-Complete Dynamic Dictionary

The PS3 comes loaded with a dictionary used in Auto-Complete in the built in web browser and possibly in future games. What's really neat is that you can easily add words to the dictionary to expand its capabilities.

5. Linux Available For Free

No buying Sony's own builds this time around as you're able to download distros for free.

4. Easy Hard Drive Upgrade

Just grab the appropriate type and size and slide it on into the appropriate slot on the PS3. Easy as pie.

3. Instant Startup
This is the fasting starting machine I have ever owned including PCs.

2. Virtual PS2 & PS1 Memory Cards

Right from the main menu you can create virtual PS2 & PS1 memory cards on the Hard Drive. No need to buy those expensive things anymore!

1. It's Silent

Unlike the jet engine otherwise known as the XBOX 360, the Playstation 3 runs extremely quiet. This is the next-gen feature that should be celebrated the most!

That's a lot of stuff. It all sounds cool and all, but sometimes I wish they wouldn't add all that extra stuff, like the fancy buttons, Linux, and what-not so it wouldn't be so expensive. But I suppose it wouldn't be as appealing. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that's just too much for a gaming system.

Linux is totally free and the only thing that would cost anything in that list is new faceplates but they are totally optional. Just like for the 360

That's not what I mean. I mean that the more stuff they put into the console itself, the more expensive it's going to be. I'm just complaining because I can't afford it.

-The buttons would annoy me (I prefer some feedback).
-The faceplates I don't even use on the 360.
-The friends list...well Sony are on a sticky wicket with any online stuff as Live has had years to mature. If the PS3 friend thing is the best they could come up with it says a lot.

The rest are good though.

I spoke to a guy in EB games and he said that other shops in ps3's were on for 4 hours and it burnt out. Lol, same problems as the 360 had on launch then.

Thats a good idea, but I wouldnt wait TOO long, because if you do, sony is going to security the living **** out of it. I would try and get the lowest possible firmware.
