Default speeds and connections

i got cogeco as said in my other thread, and im pretty sure its around 768k or something. (canada's prices for inernet are so expensive. with bell we were paying like $42 for this). anyways, it doesnt seem to reflct that speed on my ps3. when i download it takes like 13 seconds for a MB to complete, and the internet goes pretty slow.

also, sometims i get horrible bars in cod4, like 1. i usually get 3, but does it depened on the host's connction?

ps, sorry bout some spelling, this keyboard doesnt reg sometimes or i miss a key and i hate going back on the ps3.

Your connection is to blame there. I have a 3 mbps connection at home, and it still takes a while to download things, and the connection online isn't that great either. Most of my friends have cable connections which go at over 10 mbps, which is about 15 times faster than the connection you have.

I have just a standard DSL connection that I connect through a router and I hardly ever have speed problems, once in a while I'll get a little bit of lag in CoD4, but that is very rare (maybe every 40 matches or so), and my DLs are fast enough. Takes about 10 minutes or to DL an around 900MB demo. So, I don't think it's anything on Sony's end, maybe your connection.

10 mins to download a 900mb demo is really fast compared to my 1hour time.

45% connection for me though, but still I rarley experience lag in any games apart from pro evo.

Really, 1 hour? Oh man, I don't think I'd have the patience for that. lol

Thank goodness for background downloading then eh?

Backround downloading doesn't really make a difference as it doesn't carry on whilst I'm in a game, no matter if I'm playing online or not. The only games that I have that allow downloading to carry on whilst in game are RFOM and motorstrorm.

But I gotta download dark sector, HAZE, lair and Grid demo. Man that's like no GTA for a few hours!

Yeah MB. You could never live without GTA for a few hours.... If you can set it up so it downloads one thing then when it is finished it moves onto the next you could just set it up quickly in the morning before u go to school then leave it on till ye get back

The 360 does this downloading in the background and you can set up a list of stuf to download and then turnoff the 360 and it powerdown except what it needs to continue the download... when complete it shuts 100% off... same with recharging the controllers... plug em in and it will recharge until full then complete power off.

Hopefully the next generation of consols will take the best of both the 360 and ps3 and come up with a better machine.
