Is there any difference between PS3's(does the size of HDD matter)

yep. i'm pretty sure it's the 40 that doesnt support backwards compatibility, and it's stripped of some usb ports too and such.. if im correct.

samestory nailed it. It's got like 1/2 as many USB ports as the 80 GB one does. And there's NO backward compatibility with the 40 GB one.

Well i still have all my ps2 games so it woud be good to b abe to play them so i think i will need a 60gb one so i can sell my ps2

Yes you will need a 60gb to play your PS2 games on it. In the UK many people are after 60gb so there on eBay for quite a bit. Luckily that's the one i have.

shame really, but i'll ask you this, if you have ps3 games would you really go back and play ps2 games?

and even if you do, keep your ps2!!

(How much is the price difference between 40gb and 80gb)
