I will need to see some proof of that. I remember seeing that the PS3 was doing slightly better than the 360's first year, but those numbers appear far too big.

I don't know for sure who's right about that, but I do know that the PS3 has been outselling the 360 world wide for like the last 2 months straight.

You can check out the charts on vgchartz.com if you want, they aren't the best numbers out there, but they're usually a pretty good estimation, they usually correlate to Media Create and NPD's numbers.
