Default Mario Strikers Challenge

Bought this game yesterday and can tell already am gonna be hooked onto it, once I started getting used to the controls and the different moves I was getting well into it, the online play is OK, no problems experienced so far.

The online system uses the same 'friend code' idea as the console itself, so you need to exchange your code with anyone you want to play a friendly against - obviously there are ranked matches where you are pitted against a random opponent online, though this sytem isn't fair IMO, I was pitted against a player that was in the top 150 rank with 200+ wins under his belt, guy kicked my ass!

Well after day two of play, I'm hooked! You know them times when you're playing a game and before you know it, time has flown by and its early hours of the morning.

Now that I have gotten the hang of the game it is fun and addictive.

Graphics: OK so it is for the Wii but these have impressed me. Some nice textures and it all runs very smoothly.

Gameplay is very quick, you need to have your wits about you in the game that only lasts about 3 minutes. The controls are tricky to get used to at first but as with any football game become second nature after a while - the only movement you make with the wiimote is when you want to tackle someone.

I have completed one of the cups so far after being hooked to it 'one more game...' did it in just about an hour on medium difficulty and won every game.

The online aspect can be improved IMO, you add friends to play friendly matches and you can have a leaderboard of just your friends. Or you can play a ranked match against any random player online - sadly there is no chat feature at all in the online aspect and Nintendo seem to be experiencing problems with their network ATM because of high traffic volume.

I don't know what else to say - It's a Mario themed footie game where the play is dirty and fun and is always keeping you on your toes as you never know whats going to happen next with all the special moves available and how each different pitch has aspects of the environment that interfere with play (e.g. thunder island is a pitch where every so often all the players get struck by lightning)

Any questions on anything I've left out feel free to ask.

What I liked the most about Charged is that it's not your typical crazy button masher. It's actually this wierd, fast-paced nice take on football that's kind of intuitive, but mostly just really fun. It actually has some depth in the gameplay and there is actually some strategy too it, although some Captains are unfortunately a bit unbalanced. Being the first online game we got over here, I really played the hell out of last summer (I even got "Striker of the Day" on that online menu twice!) and I have mostly good memories, and thankfully the online worked really well. Seamless, little too no lag in most cases, but of course everyone's favorite friend codes did ruin half the fun but still, as far as online gaming goes on the Wii it worked.

My biggest problem with the game was the fact that it was just barely a step up from the Gamecube game graphic wise, which is a let down. While the Wii doesn't have the power of it's competitors (and by competitors I mean not-really-competitors-because-Nintendo-aren't-really-in-the-same-industry-anymore) it sure as hell can outdo the Gamecube. And of course how many of the stadium effects that the game had were annoying, dumb and in many ways reduced the strategic element of the gameplay and turned the entire match into "Who's feelin' lucky?"

But yeah, liked that game for about the 2 weeks I played it, but it's nothing I'll be going back too.
