The Wii has a lot of potential, it's innovative, new and cheap... And it's very appealing to non-gamers, while the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 cleary only send the right messages to core gamers. Calling the Wii last-gen is far from being right. From what spec's we have, it's clear that it boasts more horsepower than the original Xbox but it's nowhere near the other two new consoles. It's magic is in the controller, as everyone is aware of, and that controller really, really works... Making the Wii a fantastic console for alot of games. The Nintendo Wii is, what you could call, a new generation. While the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are next generation, simply because they, for the most part, do the same stuff as their younger brother's did... They just do it better now. What console is going to top the sales charts in 5 years? No idea. The Wii is off to a great start and people are buying into this motion thing (because it works, and it's fun) and the Wii is a real non-gamer friendly piece of hardware. Due too some production difficulties we've so far only seen a limited amount of Playstation 3 units, so we'll probably see PS3 sales boost in the near future, since Sony say they have fixed this laser-diod problem thingy. Then again, Sony are the only ones to send a big "**** you!" to Europe this generation pre-sales of the PS3 are practicaly going like crap there. It seems Europeans have had just about enough, especially after getting fair treatment from both Microsoft and Nintendo, and just simply don't want the Playstation 3 anymore... However, this might be temporary.. Or just babbling. The Wii might not have the raw power of it's counterparts, but it's got innovation and it's really cheap to develop for... Making it the perfect console for indie-developers and we are already seeing the Wii getting alot more 3rd party support than the Gamecube ever did. All 3 consoles look promising... What happens next however, remains unknown. |

Like I said, it's a matter of opinion what constitutes next gen or not. Lot's of people view the Wii with it's decidedly last gen graphics but motion sensing gaming as next gen but I personally don't. And like I have also said, there is absolutely nothing to stop both Microsoft and Sony at some point introducing a controller for specific games exactly like that of the Wii - there is even news of Microsoft currently looking into it. This is due to all of the Wii's 'innovation' being down to a peripheral (the controller) as opposed to the console itself. You would then have the best of both worlds - next gen graphics and the arguably better control mechanism.

I have read that the Wii IS capable of showing HD graphics but I don't see the need in it, Nintendo are showing that you don't NEED great graphics to make a great game. Games are not there for some 13yo geek to have a w**k at all the pretty textures and explosions, Nintendo have got a few factors in its favour this time; Price, Gameplay, FREE Online Capabilities, Different Channels, Looks (face it, 360 and PS3 are big ugly things!), virtual console game downloads, IMO Nintendo have got gaming right, fun & addictive games, with graphics which look good anyways. (not last-gen)
