Default I got The Wii

Well earlier today I got a call from Argos telling me that they will be delivering my Wii on Friday (8th) which is the UK launch.

The words 'Wait' and 'cannot' come to mind...

I'll be giving it a quick playtest when it arrives to.. you know... 'test for bugs' before it goes away until Chrimbo.
So I'll let you guys know how I find it when that happens

Today I left for school knowing that when I arrived home there would be a Wii waiting for me.
My Dad was working from home that day so he could sign for it when it was delivered.
Anyway, when school let out I practically ran home and burst in the door to find this:

I snapped a few photos during setup

Anyway, I started up the Wii and completed the obligatory time/date setup and got my first feel of what the Wii was actually like. The pointing function, I found, was extremely responsive and accurate.
Once that was done it was time to name my Wii using the onscreen keyboard, which was also extremely easy to use with the pointer functionality. Anyway, having proceeded to name my Wii in the cheesiest name I could think of (Wiilbert) I arrived at the channel screen.
I popped Wii Sports in and loaded it up, selecting Tennis to play.

It was incredibly simple to use. Just tap A and the Mii flips the ball up then you swing your arm just like in real tennis. I assume most of you have read about this but until you actually play a Wii you don't know just how good it actually is.
I attempted to put backspin on a shot by twisting my wrist as a swung and the ball went spinning off with clear backspin.
It. Is. Awesome.

Anyway, Wiilbert is packed away until Christmas morning, for which I cannot wait

I would have taken more pictures but... I kinda forgot in all the exitement

Nice wallpaper

Looks good. I will have a go at some point on my friends but this movement thing seems a bit too much like hard work. Give me a standard gamepad any day. Would like one purely for Zelda but considering you can buy a 360 now for virtually the same amount of money in the UK, I know which one I would buy if I was going the shops without a console at home.

Oh, and you have the same Sky Plus box I have.

im suprised you were able to take pictures BEFORE you played it! So is it actually quite accurate? can you miss the shots or is it just a case of waving the wiimote any direction to hit it?

do you have to stand up or doesn't it matter how high or low or how far you sit/stand

Its really accurate, you can point it exactly where you want it without any problem.

Its perfectly possible to miss it. There was one shot where, in real life, you would use a backhand but I swung just like a forehand shot so my character did the same thing and, thus, missed the ball >_<
If you swing backhand etc it picks up what you are doing extremely well.

I don't think it matters, as long as the Wii-mote has a clear view of the sensor bar (only really needed for pointing and so on) its fine. Wii Tennis doesn't use the pointing function in game, just the accelerometer.
Standing/sitting just depends on the player I guess. I stood up for Tennis but I'd imaging i'll be spening most of my time sitting while playing games like Zelda.
As for the range, I've seen a video of someone playing Wii bowling with a wii-mote about 400 feet away from the Wii

And me

Sounds good, I thought it would be a case of swing the Wiimote anywhere and hit the ball but it sounds like its different, which is obviously better.

I do feel for you though! I mean playing the Wii for what 10 minutes and then having to wait another two weeks until you can have the Wii in your arms again. I tell you the anticipation would kill me!

I have to get one of these, I REALLY hope it'll be possible.... I'm hoping to get one the next shipment after Christmas. I'll let you guys know what I think of it, it's going to be hard not to spend and of the money before I get the Wii though, lol. Also, does it come with any games?
