Default MS Duo video capacity

I am looking into buying a PSP, primarliy for watching TV shows whilst travelling (for my child, honestly!).

I've had a brief search around the forums and they have been a big help, but I have one or two questions.....

How many hours of video can an MS Due realistically store? I will look to buy a 2 or 4gb stick for inital use. Can the software compress to different levels?

What's the best free or cheap software to use for conversion? I actually have a Vaio laptop, but it's a couple of years old and did not come with Image Converter 2. I have looked on Club Vaio to see if a free download is possible, but haven't found anything about it yet. I have seen stuff on the forums about other software (DVD to PSP on allformp3.com / DVD to PSP Coverter on allforvideo.com). Which do you think is best?

Finally, how long will the battery last when watching video from the MS Duo? I don't need the wifi to be on, or to have a UMD inserted.

Any help will be much appreciated.

woah there.

1. I can normally get a DVD (2 hours) into less than 1GB in pretty decent quality. I have heard of people getting films to 600mb.

2. You can compress at different levels. If you strip the audio to mono, reduce the screen resolution and reduce the bit-rate. You can reduce things further. It's best to experiment with these as its more personal taste as to what you can live with.

3. Best cheap video conversion is PSP Video 9 which is FREE! Others can be faster but they do cost (never used anything other than PSP Vid 9). It will convert DVD's but they need to be unencrypted. You can use something like DVDShrink to decrypt the DVD and then run it through PSP Vid 9.

4. Battery, I would say about 3-4 hours on the original batter. You can get spares, I have an external batter (plugs into the charger port) that cost about £10.

If you are not playing games or UMD movies you can leave the UMD drive empty. You can leave Wi-Fi off till you need it, this will save battery power
