PSP's have never been 'all regions' when it comes to movies. You are confusing movies and games as all games will work on all PSP's. Movies have the same restrictions as normal unchipped DVD players in that they are region coded and will only work on the PSPs from the same region as the movie in question. Below is the region list.
1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories 2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt) 3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong) 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean 5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia 6: China 7: Reserved 8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

The PSP is region free in terms of games. However, movies are region locked. If you have a Japanese PSP, you won't be able to use region 1 UMD movies on it.
EDIT: you beat me to it! Interesting about a region for planes and such.. |
