Default Reading Comic Books on PSP

First off, hopefully I'm not creating a duplicate thread. When I searched for something pre-existing, I just hit too many links to comic book themed games that I couldn't locate a thread discussing my issue.

I bought a PSP tonight specifically because I want a reliable and portable comic book viewer. The pages of my digital comics are all jpegs (which is supposed to be supported) and my firmware version is 3.71. I have a 2 GB Memory Card in the machine, so storage space is not an issue. I have been following the standard transfer procedure prescribed on the web. I put the PSP in USB Connection Mode and hooked up with Mini-B/USB Cable. XP had no problem detecting the unit and opened up a list of directories. I dragged and dropped a number of folders into first the 'PICTURE' directory, then created a 'PHOTO' subdirectory in 'PSP'. All files seemed to be transferred without issue. Lastly, I used 'Safely Remove Hardware'.

Unfortunately, I've had mixed results. Some comics open and view fine. Others view fine, but the pages were uploaded in the wrong order. Some show up as having '0 pages'. And far to many show up as 'unsupported data'.

Could someone with more experience please explain why I am getting such inconsistent results and if there is a reliable 100% transfer method that will remove the guesswork from this process?
