firmware? what is it? is it Something to do with the system software?

welcome, firmware is just the version of software you have on your psp. like v1.5, v2.0, v2.6, v2.7. thats most of 'em. 1.5 and 2.0 can play homebrew if you didnt know already. sony wants you to keep updating though, and as you update firmwares, you get a little more features.

thanx u very much weezer. ive just check and ive got v 2.5. can i put some homebrew games on this or do i need to downgrade or something? where would i get the softwear to do so? t

since you have 2.5, there is no way you can downgrade (correct me if im wrong). so it wouldnt hurt to upgrade to 2.7 i suppose. you can play homebrew on V2.5+ using gta. theres more info aobut all of this in the homebrew section.
