thats stupid of them. if i upgrade to the jap version now, is it still possible to upgrade to the us version when it comes out.

Yes. It's very possible. I don't know what it would do to your warrenty, but if no one knows it'll probably be fine.

I heard on a gaming website that quoted Sony saying that you can update US 2.0 over JAP 2.0.

Maybe they're starting it for 2.0... you know how more people are updating to Jap 2.0 because it's thought to be safe...
