Plus, if you think for a minute that the current generation of games will make any use of the extra storage capacity of blu-ray you are deluded. It will be nothing but HD cut scenes and video which would be bloody annoying anyway. In 99% of cases the game itself would fit on a DVD easily.
Ok since I've last heard the PS3's games are gonna be $60.00....same as the 360's, and the whole thing about how they're just gonna fill up that supposed 45.3GB's of space with HD cut-scenes is just a theory unless you can support it, plus if it was spent on HD cut-scenes then all the better...more for my money...
I have heard PS3 games are going to retail for between $70 and $80 - they have to do this to make up the money Sony are losing on each console.

As for if they are going to use the extra space for anything decent I point you to history - mainly the PS2. Even now games released for the PS2 are still being hacked down or 'ripped' as it is officially called to fit on a single CDR for the warez scene. In most cases all they do is downsize the movie and music files or remove them altogether. So I say again, if you think that the 40+ gb of space will be used for anything but expendable content then you are mistaken. Sure, occasionally the game content might approach 10gb but that will be a rarity in my opinion. It is for this reason I laugh when the Sony fanboys start with their 50gb vs 9gb willy waving.

but doesn't it mean there will be more potential to create bigger games? I'm no expert in game memory etc. but wouldn't a bigger disk have the potential to have bigger, more detailed levels, and a lot more of them per game, a lot more characters in better detail again with a lot more body movements, more cars that are more or less life-like, more weapons, as well as the HD movies that have been mentioned.

I'm not saying that every game will be using the full capacity of the discs, but if programmers had the time/patience to fill up a blue-ray disc with loads of extras, wont they be better than DVD's?

Obviously that is the case but my point is that, on the whole, games makers don't put any more effort in than they have to. 50gb storage will promote lazy programming and lots of unrequired movies, cutscenes and music. While I accept they can add to the gameplaying experience, I myself generally ignore them anyway. As I said with the PS2, very few games even now use the full capacity of a DVD and the console has been out for five years.

And to back up pagnell reasons, lets say a new matrix came out for PS3, they could create every single official move for every fighting style, every single gun ever made, hell could probably have all clothing to (might be over looking the mark there). And it wouldnt fill a blu ray disk.

And i wouldnt enjoy a game that had too much, i like to unlock everything and get 100% completion and if you have thousands of different cars etc, it would get a tad dull after a while.

Yea but think of the possibilities of GTA on PS3. They could make it like real life... and don't try to say you wouldn't want that for some overblown reason.

come to think of it, how long would a game have to be in production in order for 22GB to be filled up with codes and images without any movies etc. f**kin aaaaaggggeeeessss!

Ahhh...you make a pretty good point there.

Hopefully, game developers have been working on games for PS3 since SONY made the prototype...or earlier.
