As for if they are going to use the extra space for anything decent I point you to history - mainly the PS2. Even now games released for the PS2 are still being hacked down or 'ripped' as it is officially called to fit on a single CDR for the warez scene. In most cases all they do is downsize the movie and music files or remove them altogether. So I say again, if you think that the 40+ gb of space will be used for anything but expendable content then you are mistaken. Sure, occasionally the game content might approach 10gb but that will be a rarity in my opinion. It is for this reason I laugh when the Sony fanboys start with their 50gb vs 9gb willy waving.

but doesn't it mean there will be more potential to create bigger games? I'm no expert in game memory etc. but wouldn't a bigger disk have the potential to have bigger, more detailed levels, and a lot more of them per game, a lot more characters in better detail again with a lot more body movements, more cars that are more or less life-like, more weapons, as well as the HD movies that have been mentioned.
I'm not saying that every game will be using the full capacity of the discs, but if programmers had the time/patience to fill up a blue-ray disc with loads of extras, wont they be better than DVD's?

And to back up pagnell reasons, lets say a new matrix came out for PS3, they could create every single official move for every fighting style, every single gun ever made, hell could probably have all clothing to (might be over looking the mark there). And it wouldnt fill a blu ray disk.
And i wouldnt enjoy a game that had too much, i like to unlock everything and get 100% completion and if you have thousands of different cars etc, it would get a tad dull after a while.
