Anyone with a PlayStation 3 on their Christmas list is going to be disappointed after its maker put back the day it's set to hit the shops.
The games console was expected to go on sale in November, but a problem making a particular part in the machines means it won't be in Europe until March. Maker Sony is still launching the PS3 in Japan and the US in November. But there will be fewer consoles on sale than originally planned, so people will have to rush to snap them up. Sony said the delay was caused by problems with making parts of the console's disc drive. It said it was very sorry about the delay and added it would be working hard to make sure the March 2007 launch would be "the biggest and best in the company's history". But there are other new consoles to choose from. Nintendo is releasing its new console this year, which has changed its name from Revolution to Wii, and Microsoft's Xbox 360 is already on sale. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes thats right, heard it on TV today (newsround actually). The CD drive clearly meaning they have problems with the Blu-ray side of things. Christ how long do they need. I feel this is in need for a poll

i was talking to my mates about this last night and wanted to know the implications of importing a US ps3 in, are the games going to be region free or will all the games have to be imported too? also if the PS3 will be compatible with our TV's (none of my mates have HDTV, best bet is probably SCART)? and will the power work from UK outlets (I know you can get a converter but will the voltage be the same?
So basically, would an imported PS3 cause any problems?

No i dont think so, but its just that you cant take them back under warrenty if its been imported (most things anyways) and its just piece of mind.
I have saved up for the PS3 and have £500 to spend now, may just buy an xbox 360 to keep me ammused then get the PS3 in march, presuming no more delays.

thats what I keep on forgetting, Sony are still releasing the console in 2 major videogaming countries, sales will still probably be high even though the price is high.
If pagnell and other film boffins payed £700 for the first DVD player, I'm sure plenty of Sony fanboys are willing to pay $600 for the PS3
