Things going from bad to worse for Sony. They will lose a lot of sales to the 360 and Wii over this.

Oh and smileys don't work in titles.

I would imagine the Wii will particularly benefit due to the 'hype' around new console releases, the controller and most importantly the price. A lot of people will look at the Wii as, "I'll get this now and think about the PS3 when it comes out", something I will be doing.

Plus with 360 games becoming more and more impressive, it will be difficult for people who want a traditional console to ignore. The Wii doesn't interest me as it looks too much of a gimmick.

it looks pretty bleak for Sony at the moment. Considering in Japan is Nintendo Fanboy heaven I can't see how releasing the PS3 over there in Novemeber will produce much sales. They will lose out on sales in the PAL regions for definite. I think Nintendo will win this battle but inevitably Mircosoft will win the war.

I don't even think Nintendo will win this battle. Their worldwide sales of the Gamecube were miserly in comparison to even the XBox which was then miserly in comparison to the all-conquering PS2.

I can see with Sony having major problems with the PS3 (price and release date being the main ones) and Nintendo with their Wii being the usual 'also-rans', Microsoft will win this battle and the war.

Can you say that the war will ever be won?

Unless there is only one console brand in the world, the war will never end.

I will not be suprised if sony still pull through victorious or microsoft steal the crown of "best console".

But if i had to bet i would be leaning towards Sony, simply due to the impressivly high sales of both PS and PS2.

You could have said the same about Nintendo or even Sega at one point and neither have had a best selling console (of it's generation) for well over ten years. However, you have a good point and the high profile of the PS1 and PS2 will help against the bad publicity the PS3 is already gethering. In the long run though I think the PS3 delays and high price along with Blu-Ray inevitably losing out to HD-DVD will leave Microsoft in first place going down the home straight.

Overall though I think the pattern will be:-

Xbox vs PS2 - PS2 wins hands down.
360 vs PS3 - Draw.
Microsoft next gen vs Sony next gen - Microsoft wins hands down.

PS3 sales are going to be rubbish in the UK, having a release date after chrimbo is a bad idea, 360's or wii's are going to be bought instead.

except for those avid sony fans that assume because the ps2 was better than xbox, the ps3 will be better than 360 (IMO it will just because of the size available on the discs)

pagnell, why do you think microsoft are gonna win next-gen?

Purely on a catchup basis. The 360 is going to be closer (if not more successful) than the PS3 than the Xbox was to the PS2. Logically I would say that in the next round in about four years time Microsoft will come away as the winner. Sony are having serious problems at the moment with the recall of thousands of their batteries in Dell and Apple laptops - it has effected their reputation and shareprice. On top of that you have an industry feeling they have lost their way a little.

Anyway, it's just my opinion and I'm sure some people will disagree.
