Default PS3 games will be 22gigs!

I got this info from another forum I go to, and that person got the info from gametrailers.com.

Resistance: Fall of Man is one of the PS3's key launch titles

The revelation comes from an article posted by MTV news, which details some brief statements from Insomniac Games' spokesperson Ryan Schneider. "We're going to fit more on a Blu-Ray disc than you could on an HD DVD," he told MTV.

The HD DVD and Blu-ray formats are competing disc technologies. HD DVD handles about 15 gigabytes; the Blu-ray can handle 25 gigabytes. In comparison, the biggest PC games top out at around 7 gigabytes -- less than a third the size of PS3 exclusive Resistance, estimated at 22 gigabyes.

The massive storage size for the final version of Resistance (which the article says are "thanks to high-res graphics and orchestral music") could serve as a potent response to concerns that Sony's Blu-ray format has no benefit for gamers. In contrast, the Xbox 360 can only hold up to 8 gigabytes per game disc.

Other key details from the article:

motion-sensing functions will allow you to rifle butt aliens by jabbing out one side of the PS3 controller
Sony claims that the online experience will exceed Xbox Live titles
40-player online games, with some form of ranking system

Resistance is being developed by Insomniac Studios, the studio behind the Ratchet and Clank games
That's a ton of space! I thought I'd share what I've heard...

They could actually make it nearly 50gb if they used both sides of the disk. I'm not aware of them using the full 18gb both sides of a DVD gives on the PS2 so this is unlikely to happen.

That would be cool. I know they do use both sides of a DVD though...usually just for a widesreen view and a fullscreen view.

Indeed, 4:3 and widescreen on the two layers is quite common. I bought my first DVD player back in about 1997 and there were a lot of 'flipper' films around then that required you to turn the disk over half way through the film because the studios couldn't be bothered making them dual layer. I still have a few of them in my collection. Might be worth something some day

a few months ago I would never have thought a game could fill 10 gigs, let alone 22GB's, sounds like its gonna be amazing quality music, videos, graphics, and HUGE levels and games that could take a year to complete.

'97? I've always heard that the first commercially available DVD player in the UK was a multithousand £ Panasonic that was released in '98 :?

I'm not questioning you or anything. I'm just curious. Where did you get you're DVD player? What make? Model? price? etc

Damn, that is a big game....

I was reading a review of it in last months PSM, and it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun. I'm not big on FPSs, but I think I'll like it. I guess there are going to be a lot of creepy parts (kinda like in Doom III), so that is always a plus.

I thought Blu-Ray discs could hold 40 gigs? Hmm maybe it's 50 for both sides... Still though, that's crazy.
