FFX is the only FF game made for PS2. I suggest that one. You could play VII-IX on PS2, but X is the best imo (playing it for the 3rd time!).
And about taking the PS2 apart, do you just want to take the cover off? I might be able to help. I'll talk to you about it on msn.

the first ps2 is quite simple to take apart, just get a screwdriver and take out all the screws you see, I haven't tried opening a slimline yet though but from what you said i guess its the bigger ps2 you have.
and as for the front bit of the drawer, they are quite simple to re-attach, if it doesnt stay then use superglue

It should take at least 40 hours to beat. The first time I played it, I took my time and finished with a time of 75 hours or so. Second time was around 42 hours. I'm playing it again, but I'm going to do every sidequest and maybe fill up the sphere grid. It'll take a while lol.

Nope, no way to defend. That's why it's good to bring some potions and healing stuff. As you advance in the game, you'll find out ways to negate some magic attacks and reduce the damage. It's all sort of strategy if you think about it.
