Default No pre-owned games on PS3 allowed!

Taken from Maxconsole. I really do hope this isn't true because it would be a real sh*tty thing for Sony to do - preowned games are the only way some people can afford to buy them.

Quote:
It would appear as if the sly folk at Sony, are making a move to stamp out the strong second-hand games market. Retail outlets have been told by Sony that they are to have no pre-owned PS3 game sections in their stores as it will be illegal for any customers who have brought a PS3 game to sell it. Under their new system, gamers will pay money to actually play the game while the content remains Sony's property hence you will not be allowed to 'sell' it.

Quote :-

It seems that Sony is planning to adopt a licensing system that will mean gamers won't own the PS3 titles that they've paid money for. Instead, they will only be purchasing the licence to play the game and that the software itself will still be Sony property - meaning that the disc won't be the customer's to sell.

We assume that the thinking behind this move will ultimately be to stop PS3 games being resold several times - which currently snatches potential sales away from Sony - and to counter the impression in consumers' minds that games are only really worth their pre-owned price and are not worth buying new.

When we contacted Sony, it issued us with the following statement: "We have made all of the official announcements at E3 and cannot make any further comments at this time. We will be announcing more news running up to PlayStation 3's launch."

Bit of a strange move if that is the case.

To me I see a whole market place for the consol of people who could be swayed into buying a unit based on the cheap games they can then buy in the 2nd hand sections.

It's a funny old money grabbing world

Yea i heard about this before. I think it also affects gamers taking games round to a mates house. If you want to play with your mate you have to use the console its 'registered' to.
Sony have really shot them self in the foot with this move

If you need to register an original non-copied game to a specific PS3 and that would be the only console that could then play it then Sony can shove the PS3 where the sun don't shine. I would never buy a console with that amount of stupid restrictions and I suspect there are plenty of others who feel the same. I really can't see it being true though - Sony wouldn't be shooting themselves in the foot, they would be shooting themselves in the *******s, kneecap and foot at the same time.

i think he means from the shops, like they have to pay a certain percentage over what they make and give it back to Sony.

If a game was restricted to one machine, that would be rental shops up in arms, and sony out of buisness because i like many others only buy a game i have rented first to see if it is good or not.

If sony do do this i am certainly not buying one, like the ps3 but sony can go screw.

EBAY, always the answer.

Nope, doesn't happen although I'm sure Sony would love it.
