I would not be surprised if Microsoft are already developing an XBox portable. Lets face it they would be a little daft if they did not try and dent the PSP market place.
As for them being too busy with the new Windows and the 360 etc... I am guessing that a company as BIG as Ms would have a seperate developement division for gaming consoles etc... and as soon as they heard rumours about the PSP they were straight on it 8) (probably I guess) hehehehehe The more decent portables on the market place the better for all of us. i used to be a nintendo guy, and i had gameboy color then gamecube then gameboy advanced and i was totally happy with it. the gba has some realy great games like final fantasy tactics-i have over 60 hours on that game...ON A HANDHELD. I think combined with all my psp game id have about 30 hours of gameplay. the psp has so much potential that they are not using in any of their games. nintendo had that little gba with crappy graphics and they brought the potential all the way to the peak to make it a fun little gadget. thats what i want to see sony do. |

I'm talking about Sony and their Dev line up. Note how I didn't say PSP has the Gamez.
Sony's coming up with awesome titles and frankly, it's the games that make Sony's PS so awesome. (And maybe the controller. :P) I'm unimpressed with the PSP's game line up too.

Microsoft are unlikely to make a handheld specifically for games. The Microsoft problem is this.
Nintendo Dominate the handheld market. Nintendo has a sizable first party outing of games which allow it to make be unique with titles such as Zelda and Metroid which means they can offer these on a handheld and also, Nintendo have a habit of making a phenomenon out of nothing, (Nintendogs, Animal Crossing) which means they always be there even if its only in the handheld, (As I feel that the LAME controller they revealed is the last they'll make) The DS problem is Third Party Support. Developers are unlikely to use the DSs unique functions to any great degree so its down to Nintendo themselves and they seem very capable of doing as proven so far. Sony meanwhile can support more on third party outings. This is key as Sony can call all the big guns in to them and make games exclusivly for the PSP. Games like Metal Gear and GTA, all produced out of Sonys Company but HUGE names which they can make exclusive to the PSP and make it the must have. Sadly, Sony doesn't do well in the first party games. But this doesn't matter, as they've never really been into that business and are happy to host the console and let developers do the hard work. Its far too late for Microsoft to enter. Everyone whos anyone has bought a DS or a PSP (or in my case both ^_^) Plus, whats on the XBOX that you can't get on the PS2? Gothic Project Racing - GT4 Halo - GTA:SA All the third Party Support would go to Sony and Nintendo would survive becuase of their first party games. So there would be nothing really to make you go, "OMG, I want that XBOX PORTABLE!" *Another Point, PSP has the US market, DS has the Japanese and they both share the European sector. Where could Microsoft begin to even break any of those strongholds?* |
