Well if you ask me, Nintendo is in its last throes of survival in gaming. You can clearly see that in the violent upsurges of Nintendo Fanboys.
They generally travel in groups ready to ambush any other gaming system fan. As you can see, they are around 5 - 12 with the ocassional lasting 40 year old who lives with his mom. Kroiky! This one's gynormous!!! Oh god, it just bit my arm off!! Ahhhh!!! Wait, the PSP doesn't go there!!!! Arrrgghh! ... sorry I'm just getting weary of all these Nintendo fans bashing the PSP... Wait, GTA sucks? I think the driving and mayhem is fun. ![]()

Hi! I'm new around here...

I'm sorry MegaMan but being the Nintendo lover that I am, I don't live with my mom, I'm not ten to twelve and I don't ambush people. I do get mad when people belittle the little Lunchbox ( ) but you know what, I just belittle them back.
Also my take is that Nintendo is going for the different market and although I would very much like them to succeed, alot of these attitudes from gamers are what's putting the company into the whole that it is in. Everyone saying that game x is for kids while game y is for mature audiences are just lying to themselves. A game is something that makes you have fun...so wouldn't that make you immature right off the bat? Just play the games to have fun, not to be cool. I see Nintendo though in third place (while still making lots of money) in the next-gen. I will be buying a Revvie though. Microsoft MIGHT come out on first, but it all depends on the mistakes that Sony makes. If they go around boasting like they've been doing then that might have a negative effect on the potential buyers and sway them to Microsoft's camp. The games are looking great, but they are all kind of the same. I have not seen one game that isn't taking realism to an extreme so that might be a downer. Perfect Dark Zero looks awesome though. I will be buying a 360 too. Sony is hard to judge. They've been getting too arrogant and their controller scares me. No real change and the D-Pad being in the prominent position is something that should have changed with the PS2. Also the console is huge. I'm running out of space in my shelf (mainly beacause I own basically all the systems) so something with this amount of mass wouldn't look nice. Plus I don't like it's shape. The games are around the same as the 360 in which I'm seeing no real change from game x to game y so that also might put a damper on games. I MIGHT get a PS3, but that's only when it drops WAY down from it's expected price. Also I'm a proud owner of a DS and even though I only have two games for the system (3 if you count the demo) I realize it's just a handheld. I do want to get a PSP (which is why I found this forum) but I havne't found any games that really interest me yet. Also a 250$ entrance fee is kind of steep (I didn't spend that much for my PS2) for something that I wouldn't use since I haven't seen any games. Maybe in the future. |

Hiya Purple_Link... and welcome to the site... great first post....
I found your comments on the whole to be very good indeed but I disagree with you about one small point.... Quote:
The conception is that the DS is aimed at younger players whereas the PSP is aimed at the older (and with more money to spend) players. But as you went on to say just go play them. I agree totally to this statement and if we could just stop getting 'other system' owners coming in here slagging off the PSP and hyping up their own systems instead of just doing that then the better this place would be. So tell me what sort of games do you like that the PSP has not got on the shelf at the moment? Again great first post. Des  |

With the statement about the games being marketed towards different demographics I agree, but it's when the BUYER refuses to buy a game because it has "kiddy" graphics (i.e. Wind Waker using cel-shading yet it gets critized where as other games that use cel-shading get praise for it's direction). It's just always bugged me as to why a gamer would think that a game that is about beating up hookers and selling drugs (GTA:SA, even though I do love this game) is any better than one of the best platformers, and hardest, of this generation (Super Mario Sunshine).
About the PSP not offering me anything, I want something that I really can't play on a console. This is why I like the DS. Sure the DS has the Metroid Demo which is a FPS, but you can't play it the way it plays on a console. With the console you have to use the analog sticks and you get some pretty inaccurate shots, whereas with the DS using the thumb pad gets you kills everytime. The PSP has Coded Arms, but it's not free :P The thing that gets me on both of the systems is that they both lack a full adventure game so to speak. The PSP has Untold Legends, but I don't really like those types of games. I mean I do like Tales of Symphonia, but that one had a variety in the way you battled where as I haven't seen that in U.L. Lumines is a great game, but since I have the DS I just picked up Meteos and I think that will suffice for my puzzle needs. I'm not a big fan of racing or sports games (but I do like Mario Kart) so there goes alot of my options right there. Also the one thing that the DS has over the PSP is that it's backwards compatible with the GBA. Sure the PSP has the MP3 player and UMD playback, but I have a REALLY tiny (with HUGE memory) MP3 player and I really don't think I'd watch movies on the go (especially at 20$ a pop). I also don't want to buy a memory stick since none of the stuff I use around my apartment use that format. But like I said, if the PSP does offer something great in the future I will get one, but right now the DS is offering all of my portable needs. Unless y'all can convince me otherwise (without going crazy)

Well, I have one thing about Lumines and Meteos to say. With Lumines, by the end of it, you're covered in flies, some spiders are making webs in your eats, and you've got a beard 10 feet long. It's satisfying, but it's a hell of a long gaming session. With Meteos, and I've played it, a 5 minute session can fufill your puzzle needs, but by the end, your eyes are tearing up from moving too fast, and your foot is tapping like a Jazz musician on speed. It's two totally different puzzle experiences. You just have to play both to get the full spectrum.

FP... good point.
Purple_Link... I see where your coming from now and agree that gamers do choose to be 'in' if they play macho games etc and more feminate if they play light shaded games with ponies etc  but that is the way of the world and human nature... Us geezers seem to need to be able to say 'UGG KILL' at times and that's fine because the gaming industry is geared up for us Neanderthals but that is also a shame because gamers with this mentality are missing out on some great little games. I do enjoy (no not ponies) playing platform games etc.. and at the moment I am chasing bloody Monkeys about with flashing lights on their little turbin covered heads (Ape Escape)... no real violence and a few puzzles too boot. But great for filling in that elusive 5 mins time slot that you were talking about. I think that as the technology started to be a brag thing, for the industry and gamers alike, the vital ingredient of games was lost a little... GAMEPLAY... yep the thing that keeps you coming back for more even after one has finished the game. My friend (FP) comments regarding Lumines are spot on and this is a very addictive puzzle game which deserves some investigation on your part. But as you pointed out the DS is suited better for you and that is cool as the PSP is suited better for our needs and as long as we can all respect that simple issue the better... actually isn't that the secret to peace on this little blue planet of ours. Respect of others choices. Man that just got way too deep for me better lighten it quickly... and anyway the DS is silver YUK   Des  |

UGG KILL!!
[proceeds to play Pikmin 2] Also I have investigated in Lumines on my friend's PSP. I played for roughly 30 minutes because I was so amazed. This was one of the reasons why I was going to pick one up, but then along comes Meteos (from the same creator of my favorite game SSB:M) and made me put my 250$ back in my wallet. I do love the premise of Lumines and how it's suited to the great audio and visual capabilites of the PSP and I hope we get more originality out of developers for both systems.
