Default HDMI to a computer screen

Alright my LCD computer screen can handle 1280x1024 so of course it can display 1280x720 which is 720p. It's is not a wide screen but since it can in theory display 720p I want to connect my PS3 to it.

Basically I want it to go like this:

PS3 outputting via HDMI > Computer monitor receiving HD signal via VGA.

Now my question:

I want to know where I can buy an HDMI to VGA (if it's even possible).

Just to be safe, this IS a VGA right?

By the way, I wouln't have to have my computer in the middle would I? I mean like:

PS3 > Graphics chip in computer > monitor

All help is appreciated!

EDIT: Okay I've scourged the depths of the internet and have found out that the only way the PS3 is getting displayed through my monitor is via a component converter that converts the cable to VGA. Now my new question is where could I buy a cheap one of these?

Yeah the pic is VGA, i googled but i could only find ones for the 360, and something saying that it was added to the 360, so im guessing its a software thing aswell.

So maybe the PS3 dosent support it.

Not much help but oh well.
