How to check Mother board - PSP-Forum.com

Hey everyone,

I need a new ram card for my PC because it is too slow (512mb.) I can'y seem to find out what type of mother board I am using to buy the correct ram card to fit.

Can someone please give some tips!

Im not sure if there is a way of actually finding out using your PC. Open the case up and see if you can see a name, or find the box it come in.

Talking of Ram, Cabe, i spoke to this guy who said having 2 or 4 sticks wont speed it up any more as it has more addresses to call to, or something lol. I remeber you and Bamhm going on about it, but i dont know, i didnt understand half of what he was going on about.

Kev, it will speed it up if the Motherboard supports dual channel. If it doesn't then there will be no speed increase. The m/board bamhm was looking at did support it so I was explaining why 2x512Mb was faster than 1x1Gb for example.

In response to the OP's question:

Being lazy, this is the way I'd do it. Go to Belarc - System Management For The Internet Age, and grab a free copy of Belarc Advisor. This little gem is free for personal use. Run it, and it makes up a COMPLETE inventory of your machine, and all the hardware and software on it.
Then, if you go to crucial.com, you can search for ram for your exact model of motherboard. Crucial will show you a list of all types of ram that will work on your particular board, or at least all types that they have available. Simple, easy, takes just a few minutes, and there you go. Slick as a politician at a town meeting.

I'm guessing that program is about the same as Everest, that's what I use, but yours is free, so it'd be better for some people.

Just open it up and look at the sticker on your current RAM. Or use like PC wizard or somthing.

Ok so you want some more RAM! You do not need to know what mobo you have to find out. Being that you have a 512 Stick already, buy another 512 stick to even it out.Note: BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING ON THE MOTHERBOARD OR THE MOTHERBOARD ITSELF, YOU NEED TO GROUND YOURSELF FOR STATIC ELECTRICITY, YOU CAN EASILY GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING MEDAL. TOUCH YOUR PSU AND THEN PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEPS! IF YOU FAIL TO DO SO YOU CAN FRY THE WHOLE MOTHERBOARD OR WHATEVER COMPONENT YOU TOUCH! Now open the side of your case. (Make Sure Computer is off before pulling out the ram) Inside the case will be the motherboard attached to the motherboard tray. Find the RAM Stick thats sitting in the ram slot. Pull up on both of the tabs to unlock the ram from the slot. Pull out the RAM and and write down everything it says on the label and post it here. Then I will tell you what kind of ram to get and what speed. And when i say everything, I mean everything it says on that label! When your done evenly seat the ram stick in the slot and press down firmly, it will take some strength to get the stick to lock back into the slot. Once its back in put the case cover back on and attach the thumb screws and your done!

Btw wouldn't Cabes webby be less complex and more useful?

You go to the websire download the free software, load it, check all your computer specs, list them here.
