Question Linux Ubuntu Customization

Ok, so i have Ubuntu on my PC, i have sen on Youtube loads of desktops that just look brill. Now i havent a clue where to even start with this, i have tried the Ubuntu website, the Beryl website but i just get to links on downloading Ubuntu.

Does anyone here know how to set this up, as i majorly want this Matrix style desktop.

Brownie points for the one who gets it working for me.

That definitely isn't ubuntu. The way they get the desktop to look like a cube and everything. nah. I have actually used a linux distro that has the cube and matrix effect on the live cd. It's called XGL or something google it.

No, that's Ubuntu. It's a mod you can get to make it have the cube.

The cube and transparent terminal window (Oh and the jelly windows!) are a part of Beryl, a graphic enhancement for the gnome desktop environment.

Ubuntu has a preinstalled, watered down version. Just go to System>Administration on the top menu in gnome (it could be System>Preferences... I don't have Ubuntu in front of me...) Enable "desktop effects", that's what you're looking for. You'll need to restart because you have the enable "commercial restricted 3rd party" drivers (for your graphics card).

As for the matrix theme, I think you'll be able to download that off the internet. It might be in gnome splash manager. (Goto the terminal and "sudo apt-get install gnome-splashimage-manager" or something if you don't have that...)

PS: Getting the desktops on a cube is tricky, just search for help online or post here if it gets the best of you... (like it did for me )

I heard from my friends, that this system is somehow similar to Windows Vista. Vista has the cube too.

I'm pretty sure Vista doesn't have the cube...

Vista has Flip 3-D. The desktop remains stationary but the open windows are 3-D.

Thanks Megaman, will mess around with it now.

EDIT: Ok, i went to preferences and customize desktop or whatever and it said it needed to enable the advanved graphics driver, and reboot. So it did but the driver didnt enable. Im guessing because my PC is **** lol, im not too fussed as it should work on the new PC. WHICH I HAVE THE FUNDS FOR!!!!!
