Default How can I do this? lol

Tomorrow, my grandpa's going to give me all of the computer parts that are in the other thread, and he was wanting to put the computer together with me. Only thing is, I have NO idea where my original XP disk is.... I know where my BACKUP of my XP disk is, but not the official one, I think my dad may have let someone borrow it. Anywho, my grandpa has high morals and probably wouldn't approve of installing Windows XP off a burnt CD... As I was typing this, I just remembered I could install Ubuntu or some other version of Linux.

So that just narrows it down to one more problem, he got 2 graphics cards, somehow he found a place to get the original Graphics Card and the new one from the other thread. He got them both and was wanting to compare them... I was just wondering if anyone knows how I could compare the graphics without buying a game? Because quite frankly, I know I won't be able to run to the store tomorrow and get a cutting edge game for the PC, and like I said, he's got high moral fibers, so that leaves out the other option of testing a game, than right afterwards uninstalling it...

Is there any program that will show you what kind of graphics your PC is capable of? I'm sure there won't be any difference and I'll just pick the 2nd one because it looks cooler and is quieter, but my Grandpa will want to test them both...

EDIT: Well I got Ubuntu up on my PC, and it's AWESOME, but I'm going to dual boot it with XP on my next computer just incase something goes wrong w/ Ubuntu and I need to use XP...

Also, for some reason, I kinda thought that you could use .exes in linux, don't ask why. :P Is there any way to use them? I like gaim or w/e it is, but I'd like to use MSN messenger more...

Search for a program called Wine, it is like a Windows emulator. It is reported to be a bit choppy with big programs.

Have you installed all the visual effects in Ubuntu Bamhm?

How was the Netword install for you? Did it do it automatically or need some configuration?

I am uninstalling it from this PC as it has problems with the wireless, and i wont be using this when i get mine so there is no need for it.

About the graphics cards, just find the specs online and compare them, or post the links here so our brain boxes can look for you.

I figured it all out! I didn't even have to install anything on it! I got all the parts and I'm installing Ubuntu as I type. This computer is a LOOOOOOOOOT faster!

Also, the way I got past the graphics card issue is I said on had a fan that will go out, and no game, and one had a heatsink that will be quiet and included a game, plus is Graphics chip was 100 higher than the one I didn't get.

I had to mod the hell out of the case, I had to but a hole in it with pliers. That was HARD!

So far I love this computer, It took about 5 minutes to install Ubuntu, on my Compaq it took at least an hour!

Awesome, i took me about 45 minutes.

Im gonna get the 5000 whatever CPU, its not much more and probably makes a bit of difference in speed.

I may have missed your reply to the visual effects but i will ask again, how did you get the cube thing?

Wait till you get to the dual booting part. Just be thankful that it isn't as hard with just 2 OS's. :P

Yeah, I think in order to dual boot I'd need to format my HDD, I don't feel like formating my HDD, so I don't think I'm going to dualboot... Plus this keyboard's USB, so it turns off at the dual-boot menu...

Thanks for the guide, dude, but if you use Acronis Disk Director Suite 10, it's a lot easier.
