Well, it's like this:

Pentium 4 has all of its power in 1 processor. It will seem faster because most applications don't recognize dual core or do not multi-thread.

The Core Duo that you were talking about were both slower than your Pentium. This means that they can't go as fast as the Pentium, but they can do more things at the same time at that reduced speed. Some programs that can manage the multiple processors will run faster.

Most new programs support dual core these days since its obvious that that's the way technology is going. We're reaching the upper limits of silicon chips hense the rise of dual core.

DO NOT CONFUSE ME, i will hunt you down and roll you down a big hill in a tractor tire.

If i had two PC's both the same apart cpu, one a pent 4 at 3.something GHz. and another with an AMD dual core (the one cabe linked), which would load to the main screen faster.

Loading more depends on the speed of your HD and RAM rather than the speed of the processor.

In most cases, and I mean 90% of programs that you buy new today, will run with dual core support. If they don't right out of the box or its an older program you can bet someone has released a patch to do so.

Even if you can't find a patch a dual core processor will come with a dual core optimiser to get the best out of all programs, even ones that don't have dual core support.

Multicore is the way forward, Intel have a Quad core line of processors and you can get a Mac with 8 cores. So its better imo to get a dual core than a soon to be outdated single core.

Wow. I'm getting old.

Yeah so nowadays its better to have 2 slightly weaker CPU's than 1 slightly more powerful CPU. (It saves energy and the computer 'runs' faster.)

Sorry Kev.

Man, I couldn't stand Windows 95, you have to tell it how to do EVERYTHING. It doesn't know how to do anything by itself. You have to get online to get the drivers needed to get online.

 That's a hell of a paradox, I'm surprised things like that don't rip a tiny hole in the universe.
