Default surround sound?

Hey, does anyone know how this works: http://www.hearotto.com/Products_OT4.aspx ? I’m really not good with technical stuff. Does “surround” that mean it sounds like you are in a movie theater when you put these on? How do they do that? Is it anything like the thing they have on my TV that “fakes” surround sound (and doesn’t really work that well….)? I just don’t get how you get “surround” out of two speakers, which is what I’m assuming headphones amount to, but maybe there’s some special physics I don’t know about.

I can think of one possibility:

The headphones dont have two speakers but, 4 or 6, or 8.

2, 3 or 4 in each ear pad, which are in opposite positions creating the centered feeling you get when surronded by speakers in a room.

Its just making the surrounding a tad smaller

Thats my guess anyway.

Hmmmm.... I hear you. That would make sense, for some reason they require a battery, I'm not sure why. I did some reading online and couldn't really understand all the technology, but I get the general idea that this works for some people's head/ears/brain but not for others. Guess I should buy the headset and find out.

I got the set in the mail an hour ago - pretty sweet! I like the Otto. For $40 the sound quality is pretty good and they are pretty comfy too. A little bulky, but they'll work well for home.

I dunno! I'd have to cut them open to find out, I think. I looked through the manual carefully, but it just says how to use it, doesn't explain the technology. I can sort of see through the netting on the headphones and it doesn't look like there is more than one speaker in there, but I can't really tell. It does indeed produce something that sounds like surround, but it's a little weird, I put on this old THX test CD I have that has a helicopter noise that's supposed to do a full 360, but for about 5 degrees of that 360 it didn't quite sound like it was behind me. But still, pretty good.

Yeah, for $35 they are definitely worth it. I mean, forgetting the surround part they are a decent, comfortable pair of headphones, and I would expect to buy the same product for like $100.
