Default Vista

I bought a new laptop for my wife for Christmas, and Dell had an offer where they send you a free copy of Vista. It should be coming in the mail in a couple of weeks and I have a question for anyone who has imput.

I have heard that Vista makes the apps on your computer run a little slower, and some people just don't like where Microsoft went with this version of Windows.

Should I upgrade or keep XP? I won't install anything custom or bootleg like Linux or Mac OS, so that isn't an option. It's just a choice between upgrading or not. Any imput from those of you that have experience with Vista will be appreciated.

It depends man...

For it to run only a little slow then you need at least:

1.0Ghz

1GB of RAM

A good graphics card

At least 20GB's on your HDD and they say to have 40Gb's for a better perfomance...

And a DVD drive...

All from Wikipedia

It has a 1.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2MB/1.66GHz/667MHz)

1GB, DDR2, 533MHz

80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950 GM graphics card (not that great)

and a DVD drive.

I guess what I'm really asking though is, do you guys think that the positives outweigh the negatives in upgrading? :?

I heard that as long as your computer can support it hardware wise then it is better....

But then again I heard Vista actually blocks some programs from being installed like Limewire or Torrent programs....but that was a rumor that I heard...

I too was wanting to upgrade to Vista but then I heard about the no-install programs thing and I stayed with XP Pro...

I'll get my friend to help, he's already a member but doesnt post as much....he had Vista, then downgraded (:lol

I doubt I'll ever upgrade. When you need most of your system specs to run an OS, then it's time to rethink where you're heading.

My computer's a Dell actually, not a Mercer, still on the fence. Thanks for the imput guys, anyone out there that has played around with Vista yet? Are the new features worth it?

No. Aero looks nice, but you can replicate that with the Vista Transformation Pack (google it).
