Can anyone suggest some good antivirus program?

My computer got a NASTY virus, and I've lost my Windows XP Pro disc, so I can't get back to Windows XP Pro if I reformat it.(but I do have the Windows XP home disc, so I might just use that and find another way in 30 days.) Anyways, does anyone know any good anti-virus programs that might get rid of it?

I'm backing everything up, I'll probably be done sometime next week, so I'm going to reformat than if nobody knows any good ones.

Also, Ryder, did you ask your friend if he knew what to do?

I'd just re-boot, everyone seems like they're against it for some reason, but if you have everything backed up (and an hour or two to spare) it isn't that much of a pain in the ass.

reformat, although there are some that will actually stay after a format.

I recommend Norton antivirus which costs *cough*
or xoftspy, sorry don't know where to get xoftspy without buying, so can't cough there.

Have you tried a system restore yet?

i got also this sh!t another day. i just used two things in safe mode, AVG Free anti-virus, and Ad-Aware SE personal (its a free anti-spyware), and i tell u what, the one i got, was so stupid, that was a hard one to go, but after i scan in safe mode, i just restored the pc, and bang!!!! everythin was back to normal

It wasn't pron, I swear on my mother's grave(my mom's not dead :P) But I'm serious, it's not.

I can't exactly say what I was doing, but it was for a program called Fireworks so I could work on a school project. (SEE There's a reason why I don't do my homework, it gives me viruses, lol)

Also, I've got ways of *coughing* too, it's just that one time I screwed up.

Also, I'm not much of a fan of Vista, 1. because I only have 256 MB of Ram, and 2. because it seems more strict and buggy as hell...

EDIT: Also, can you run system restore in Safe Mode?

And System Restore doesn't work for me, I'm guessing the thing disabled it.

hey man, i once made a spyware, just to get some passwords from someone, well i succeed, but the reason they make virus, its because it gives 'em money!!! who do u think make virus, of course are the owners of antivirus, how would they get money without the virus?
