Hiya Guys,
Ok I have a question for you lot... I know it's Xbox related but not xbox360 so I am guessing this is the correct place to post this. I gave my kids my old original Xbox (along with numerous other electronic gadjets I have colected along the way). My son adores his xbox and I look forward to getting him a 360 or ps3 at some point. My question is this... on my 360 I watch movies via wifi from my laptop or a mem stick (obviously these are back up avi files of my own dvd collections and AXXO is a name I do not recognise ).. I was wondering if the old Xbox could do the same... I can't remember if she has a usb port or not. I know that one can buy a usb cable for the xbox but am unsure if that is a usb adaptor or what the thing is for.If one of you has an old Xbox could you take a ganders at it and let me know if a usb port is there... also if anyone has any experience at playing avi's on said dinosaur it would be very helpful. I have just bought a subscription to some software that allows me to transfer HUGE files over the net to my childrens machine... and it would be cool for them to watch avi's on the tv rather than on a computer monitor. Anyway if anyone can help I would be greatful. Cheers Des ![]() |

I am not sure. I think it might have that feature somewhere...
If not then it would be availible via hacking it ...I have an original modded xbox and i bleeive that is the only way of playing moie files from the HDD (If you upgrade it) |

No Des, you there is no USB port on the Xbox. Not on mine at least. Oh and there is no way to stream content from the PC either. All that is mods. The whole multimedia on consoles started with this gen my friend. Also, I would hardly call the Xbox a dinosaur, it came out a mear six years ago no?

Cheers guys.... didn't think streaming was a real issue but was hoping that it would be able to play avi's.... looks like that cable is a usb adaptor cable so that you can plug usb devices into it... but if it will play avi's is a different matter.
Ryder... the dino comment was a flippant one I know but I am sure you understand.... when the xbox came out the whole user interface was just awesome compared to what was out there. Oh well the kids can huddle around the monitor and watch then. Des ![]() |

Des, how old are your kids? I mean, if i had lets say this axxo (whoever he is) has files about 700mb's
then on a 4gig dvd you can fit what? 5 movies onto one... most dvd players now support xvid so send them some dosh for a spindle of dvd's and im sure they can work it out... all depends on the age though, i mean if they 2 then ok fair enough but maybe 9 - 10, might be able to do something.Kev ![]() |

I'm talking about my own personal collection of backups here, as I have no idea who aXXo is either, but if I were to burn 5 of my backup copies just straight onto a DVD, none of my devices, apart from maybe my PS3, not too sure, would be able to figure it out, that's how it was when I tried it last time, they were all like "where the hell are the movie files?" I eventually had to do 1 movie at a time and use a separate DVD for each one.
Than I figured out that the PS3 is teh uber pwnage for playing .avis, you can just copy them to a flash drive (or PSP's memory stick if you're like me) and keep your DVDs safe on the shelf. Went off topic, but yeah, back on topic, pretty sure the Xbox could only play DVDs, so you couple probably do what I was metioning up there, but odds are it'd just be easier to just have them huddle around the monitor. Also, nice avatar. You're watching us at all times. ![]() |
