My home computer is running XP, and so does my old laptop. I could set up wireless network and printer sharing between them in about 10 seconds. But my new computer is running Vista, and it took me 15 minutes just to find the network folder, and I couldn't wirelessly share my printer, even though I've installed all the necessary drivers and programs and joined my new laptop to my wireless home network. I contacted Microsoft, but they told me to contact the company who made my printer. But I couldn't even find my printer on there website. And even if I did, you have to make an account, which requires the printer's name, serial number, and several other things that would prevent me from filling out the application. There must be something about Vista that is preventing printer sharing between different OS's.
Help! ![]() P.S; I've had this printer for about 2 years. P.P.S; Sorry I posted Twice. |

Heres the solution.
Copy all your important files over to a USB drive or a DVD-R, or even a Portable Hard disk Drive. Format the drive Carefully sprinkle holy water on the hard drive which used to have Vista on it to banish it of all evil. Install XP on the born again hard drive (you will hear it purr) If you need drivers still, go to DriverGuide.com (printer drivers, cdrom drivers, modem drivers, sound drivers, mouse drivers, monitor drivers, etc.) - DriverGuide.com (not sure what kind of manufacturer makes you prove you own the device, but I'd not do business with them again). You have to register but its to avoid other websites using direct links. Copy important files over Happy network! Its worth the hassle |

I FOUND THE ANSWER.
After about an hour of google, I found a link: (Link) Apparently, you need to install this on your XP computer in order for vista to fully recognize this computer. I also had to set "File and Printer Sharing" on the XP computer to either "Open," where absolutely anyone can get at the printers and files, or another setting (I forget what it's called) where only the computer(s) with the IP address(s) you list can access them. |
