Yeah thats what I heard in the past. The thing is it is 2 GPUs in a single card, so that you could put it into a simple SLI without needing an advanced motherboard. It pretty much takes the same approach as the HD3870x2.

They one you might want to look into is the 9800gx2 which is supposed to come March 11th. It is rumored to have a 30% performance boost over the 8800ultra, unfortunately it is supposed to be priced at $400.
I heard the 9800GX2 was like 90% better than the 8800 Ultra. That'd be a little too insane if you ask me so I doubt it. Oh and I was referring to the 8800 G92 (something like that) and the 9600GT. Still I heard the 8800 G92 is still better...

not read much, but ive heard the best ATI card outperforms the best geforces on SLI, but i cant be arsed researching it, maybe nvidia are saving the big guns for a couple of months before they blow ATI to oblivion

im not too sure about the ati crossfire vs nvidia sli with both theyre flagship cards. im pretty sure 2 ultras could devastate their 3870x2.

also, theyre new 9xxx cards are coming out soon hopefully.. can't wait lol

Yeah, sure, maybe 2 ultras could devastate the 3870x2, but the problem is that a single 8800ultra costs more than a single 3870x2. It doesn't make any sense to buy two of them, since its still going to be far more expensive, even if you compare to 2 3870x2 cards.

Also, the first of the 9xxx series is really bad, it can barely keep up with the 8800GT. The 9800gx2 is a different story though, but we still need to wait and see.

And Ryder, yes the 8800gts (G92) has a pretty big performance improvement over the 9600gt.

well comparing the 3870x2 to a single 8800 isnt really fair, as theyre outdated pretty much.

the 9600 does what it is good - being a budget card.

Why would it be unfair? If they are on the same price point, it is pretty damn fair, no matter how old or new the card is. It is all about price and performance, not release date.

I think I found where you got that rumor from. It got its GPUs messed up though, take a look.

I have to say, they made it a rather ugly card.
