Ok, if you bought a digital tv recorder it would be a freeview box and recorder in one. So the tv's freeview would not be used.

If you use a standard recorder all you can record is what scart input you choose (DVD, Console, freeview box etc) and the standard 1 - 5 channels.

I think that makes sense.

Well i know that my tape recorder can record the selected tv input channel.

You know when you have to switch the tv etc. So yeah, you can record anything that plugs into the scart socket.
