Default AV cable converter?

Well, on Saturday I won a pretty nice Creative T3100 sound system from my College's casino night. It is only 2.1, but it has much nicer sound than my TV speakers. Unfortunately it only supports a standard audio cable, not sure what it is called, the kind that plugs into MP3 players or any normal headphone jack. Well I am wondering if there is a way that I can convert AV cables into a standard headphone jack. The reason for that is I would prefer to use that sound system for my PS3 and plug an HDMI cable into my TV.

I am sorry if this is confusing, but I am not exactly an audio person, so I do not know the correct terms to use. Any help will be appreciated.

Just splice them, sure it might not look as pretty, but it gets the job done. That's what I do if I'm in need of a cable that I've never seen before.

Usually when I need some kind of adapter for cables and stuff I go to Radio Shack. They've usually had adapters or converters for everything I've looked for.

I went both there and Best Buy, with no luck. Ended up ordering an adapter of monoprice.
