An ICQ number is an identity for use with the ICQ instant messanging service. When you sign up you are assigned a number as opposed to a name. Never used it myself so can't go into too much detail.

It's just like Pagnell said, you're assigned a number instead of a screen name. You can change you display name as often as you wish. You just have to use your # and password to login. I used to use it, but I got tired of recieving spam messeges and automated chat sessions. Now I'll use AIM if I feel like getting online.

ICQ is overrun with spam these days, but yeah its just your run of the mill IM-like program. Pretty old in fact, I remember using that before it got overrun...many of you were probably still wetting your bed (or filling up your diaper).

i used it a few years back but hated the bloody noises that came with it, stuck to messenger (remember the first msn messenger? so simple and quick, those were the days)

the idea of ICQ is great actually

the search tool made it possible to find a lot of people you wouldnt get in touch with otherwise...
and the profile is easy to set up, ICQ could have been awesome.
but then this problem with spam and viruses and **** like that appeared

and Msn messenger is way behind on that area, ehm actually both the searching and the viruses :?
