you have a few options to consider. PCAnywhere and VNC (Virtual Network Connection) are both free utilities - google them to get the latest versions.
VNC is better for limited bandwidth situations as it has a very efficient protocol but I know alot of people that only use PCAnywhere. Both applications have a need for the machine you want to remotely connect to running the application to some degree - in the background for example - and both are used by IT admins to help the poor users out of sticky situatons.
My preference is VNC.. easy to install and use...
