Vista actually isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Installing it is a breeze and most software will be fine. If a vista driver doesn't work, try the XP ones. They usually work fine. It's just that Vista eats up ram (not good on a laptop) and has too many gadgets to be productive. Other than that, it's just a nice looking XP. The magazines have one thing right.

If you're hesitant to use linux, you can dual boot (I recommend XP.). If you still have the same computer later, you can just install Vista over your XP partition. You can also make a 3rd partition just for data storage. With the correct customization, it will be accessible by both OS's. Grub is a **** though...

Speaking of performance, I think my ram is clocked at 333 Mhz but is actually about 20% faster. Is there any way (in the BIOS, I guess?) to overclock/return it to normal speed? Maybe not in an OEM board...
