Default PC Crashing - I need a smart arse!

Ok, every now and then my pc freezes, like i can move the mouse or nothing. It is a wireless mouse and wired keyboard.

When it crashes the light on the keyboard still flashes each time i move the mouse, so guessing its not that. Also, it is really slow now.

Do you think i have hardware issues? Or maybe just reformat my hard-drive as i know there are those pop up programs on it that i cant find.

Code:
Machine name: PC
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)
           Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: GBT___
       System Model: AWRDACPI
               BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
          Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
             Memory: 256MB RAM
Page File: 391MB used, 225MB available
        Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
     DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode
That is what i have, any suggestions please.

Im thinking about 1 gig ram to help it out a bit more. Maybe because its like 3-4 years old now its got too much running built up over that time, i dont know. Anyways, any help would be brill!
