thedeal526,
Honestly I have no idea what people are talking about when they rave about Burnout Legends, that game is not a real racing game and plays crappy.
I have tried a few racing games and the only one I bought was Ridge Racer. I know it looks like a lame street racing game at first glance but is actually a really great street-circuit track game. You race on closed circuits made up of city streets and country highways. You can do individual races or tour the world racing on tons of new and refurb tracks, earning new/better looking and performing cars as you go.
I think I like this game so much because it is very realistic but they threw in some fun features to make it unpredictable like NO2 boosters (you earn the ability to use them as you race) and drifting (it is so awesome throwing out the rear end on some of those cars as you fly around the turns).
Check out IGN's review. They rated it 9.1/10:

I love the game but I give it an overall 8.5/10 just because I was a huge Gran Turismo fan and Ridge Racer could have blown it away and been game of the year if they had made it so you can customize the cars. But on individual marks I give the game 9's all around: Graphics (great detail), gameplay (very easy to use controls), sound (there must be 45 original tracks in this game), and fun (I raced 4 guys in ad-hoc mode and it ran smooth as if I was playing alone which was a blast, not to mention I won a few races with a last second nitro I had saved up).
