Wink Bricked, then unbricked but not sure how

I am a noob and decided to take a shot at going from ofw to cfw. I did hardmod a battery and created a magic ms. Since I have a slim battery, I just did the method of cutting a lead on the circuit board. Next, I downloaded the totalnewb. memory stick prog. I ran it and when I try to boot, I get nothing but a green light and blank screen...and no pressing X doesn't resolve my problem..(By the way I started with ofw v3.95). I then proceeded to d/l another newbie package to create a ms stick called Pandora -universal unbricker. I am now able boot to my ms stick, using the pandora battery. I go through the screen that says press X, and it finishes...Says press X again. I do that. PSP reboots to the PSP splash screen, then freezes for about 10 seconds, then shuts off automatically..What the hell!...After toying around, I decided to do the hold R button down thing, and power psp on. I now get a recovery menu for custom firmware mm3.71-2. I guided myself to the flash0 option and selected format. It did something and reboot. Now it reboot to what looked like a fresh psp xmb bar! yah...not really cause it went to something that resembles the BSOD on windows and says press O to format flash0 again. I push O and it shortly reboots again and started working again. I checked the system verison and low and behold it is on 3.71mm-2! I was able to proceed to update it to v4.01-2. How this worked, I have no idea but seems to be fine.
