Windows media player can interfere with the music, and even transfer stuff auto - best to
keep WMP closed

If you have ripped music, then its possible that the program you used to rip it isnt doing it properly, try a different one and see how that goes
I have a question - Do "other" mp3 files work fine?

The system can play WMA, but its best to stay away from this junk format, which is basically MP3 under license from Microsoft. Stay clear

Its understandable why you got confused. Hope this post clears it up
- Make sure the files are in the correct folder (If its corrupted and show the files then it probably is, but check anyway
- Try another ripping program - its possible they were corrupted during the creation process - Do these files play perfectly in windows? If so it doesnt neccesarliy mean they will on the PSP. SO try another program. Download.com has a a few free ones which have always worked well for me.
